We’ve been calling it Decorating on a Budget and Thrifty Decorating Ideas, now it’s Decorating Green.

Ok, we’ll go with that. www.inoutdecor.com is all about living, entertaining and decorating green.

Instead of buying those great designer paper plates to throw away after the party, buy great plates in matching sets or miss match dinner plates from your local thrift store. At ninety-nine cents to less than three dollars a plate you can use fine china with a beautiful design for everyday and even for an out door party. So what if one gets broken at that price.

Go really green and save the broken dish for your next mosaic project……

Layer Your Table

For entertaining or your own family mundane meatloaf meal.

·	Use table linens, vintage and new mixed. The tablecloth you bought at the yard sale is too small for your table? Skew it at a diagonal then used fabric napkins at each place setting. Mixing colors and patterns make the elegant experience more casual.

·	Combine different silverware patterns, rather stainless steel, hollowware and antique silver. If you don’t have enough serving spoons or salad tongs they are readily available for a song at thrift stores, yard sales and antique malls. (They make great gifts too).

·	Combine tea lights, candelabras and single candlesticks of varying heights of different materials to create motion and harmony. Tea lights can be places in colored juice glasses for a moody glow.

·	Use fresh, aromatic flowers to bring the table together and create a special feeling. There are no real rules as to size and height of centerpieces or individual arrangements. Just be sure conversation isn’t around that mass of tall irises…..

·	If you really want to go all out, use individual salt and pepper shakers, name cards, napkin rings, charger plates and any other little personal touches just from you.

For someone’s birthday include a wrapped gift on the celebrant’s chair and a small favor on the other chairs. It creates a special moment and lasting memory.

After some research, I found out this is some species of Tree Cricket…the fact that it locks its wings together, stands them straight up like a satellite-dish antenna, and then flaps them a billion times a second to make that sound is pretty cool! A couple of times in the video it stops its little serenade, moves around, and then starts again, and you can see just exactly how it makes its song. This video was taken on a warm night this past late-December in Austin, TX; the tree cricket was perched on a lawn chair right by the back door, so the porch light lit it up enough to film. Anybody who knows what exact species of tree cricket this is, please feel free to leave a comment. And who else besides me thinks YouTube should have a “Nature & Wildlife” category? I put this in “Science & Technology” because I figured “Science” fit it better than any of the other “categories” offered.

When your toddler is big enough to sip up without assistance then it is time to invest in a high chair for feeding by mom or dad or if baby is independent enough to feed him or her self.
Around the middle of ’08, my father was diagnosed with cancer and had to under go chemo which occassionally caused severe dizzy spells. While I was out one day, the cat featured in this video flipped her water dish and later on became thirsty. Since Dad didn’t think he could refill the dish without falling over, he filled the little pink cup with water, got her to jump up onto a chair, and he held the glass for her as she drank the water down. Now we’re in mid 2010, and she still from time to time begs for water from the pink cup. The meow she gives when she wants this is very distinctive, with a bit of a whine to it. Sometimes she’ll do that because she’s genuinely thirsty but tired of drinking from a dish, other times this is a way for her to get attention that doesn’t involve exercise or petting. Yes I’m aware that my mouth is hanging open, and that’s due to needing nose surgery to correct a nasal abnormality.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me for this video, so here goes… In 1993 I had a public access Cable TV show called ‘CARPOOLING WITH KALYNN”, a weird twist on the talking head format. In this episode, I ‘interview’ my good friend Paul Marco – He was best known as KELTON THE COP in the ED WOOD ‘Plan-9 from outer space’ trilogy. Hear him tell Ed Wood stories, listen to him dish on Bela Lugosi, watch him fall and crack his head (part two)!!! Yep, but he was a good sport about it and went on with the show anyway. See, the car was actually a foam-core cutout that I had painted and folded back to give the ‘hood’ perspective. This was set up on a 2 foot riser (to let the blue-screen fill the area to the bottom) with nothing more than 2 folding chairs on it – but because the ‘car hood’ was at such a long angle, the chairs were positioned at the very edge of the riser. You can see Paul squirming quite a bit and I was worried that he was moving the chair too far back – and as soon as I start to tell him that his chair was too close to the edge, he took the spill, slamming his head against the wall behind the riser! He insisted we finish the show, so after some fancy (yea right) editing with vintage footage, we were back up and running! It is quite fascinating to hear Paul tell what it was like during the filming of Ed’s masterpieces. I had to cut the episode into 3 parts to fit it on YouTube, so look for all 3 parts here (show production credits are in part 3). Paul passed away a …

Indian style furniture tends to have a lot of sculpting, color, design, fabrics, textiles and detail. In order to fuse Indian furniture with the concept of modern furniture, it’s important to keep it simple without too much fru fru. This can involve a lot of editing when it comes to shopping for Indian furniture, as Indian style design pieces tend to have a lot of personality and flair.

Many modern furniture stores have reproduced antique Indian furniture pieces, focusing on the rustic influence it has. To keep it modern, it’s important to focus on certain elements of Indian style furniture and décor to capture the right look for your modern home. Here are some ways to capture modern minimalism with the historical essence of Indian culture.

Solid purples and reds

These two colors seem to capture the essence of the Indian style best. Knowing how to sift through the amazing color palette of Indian style furniture and décor is not easy and involves a certain design discipline. Keep in mind purples and reds for a chic, opulent look. In order to keep it modern, it’s best to stay consistent with one color and fabric and not get too wild with too many colors.

Velvets and silks

Dated back into ancient times, Indian style has always utilized velvet and silks in its fabric and the upholstery of its furniture. Dark purple velvet cushioning lining the sofa or bright red silk pillows on the bed add a certain bourgeois feeling to the home you are decorating. There is a sense of royalty and nobility while eyeing or sitting on a velvet-draped chair, a feeling that exudes confidence and esteem. Even a silk throw blanket or velvet-lined drapery gives off a modish kick, capturing that antique look as well.

The art of silver-folding

A lot of antique Indian style furniture and décor was made from pure sterling silver, hand-crafted and solid, with elaborate details and creativity. Intricate designs were inlayed into the silver, which was used for headboards, stools, chairs, trunks, desks, statues and the opulent adornment in luxurious kingdoms.

Nowadays, modern furniture stores are reproducing and drawing inspiration from these ancient design pieces with a process called silver-folding. Brass and metals are being imprinted with historical, elaborate Indian designs. It is a timely process, because many items are done by hand, but the outcome is a piece of furniture that will last you a lifetime and never tarnish or lose its durability. In essence, it’s a great investment.

Indian art and decor

In many minimalist homes, the piece of artwork in a room is the standout item. It sets the stage for the furniture, fabrics, patterns, styles and overall vibe. Yoga and spirituality are huge influences of Indian culture and symbols of these practices can be hung against the walls of your modern home to give off a more peaceful presence.

A piece of folk art featuring Lord Shiva or Lord Ganesha (strong symbols of Indian culture) is always a nice touch to a hallway or foyer. Chakra and mandala symbols, intricate oil paintings of Buddha and Batik paintings are classic Indian staples that adda lift to any modern home.

Ancient Indian accessories

A handmade Indian jewelry box on the dresser in your bedroom adds historical value to your home. Serve your guests with Indian style pots, bowls, dishes and silverware, which are usually deeply embroidered with beautiful ethnic motifs. A statue made from wood, stone, marble or brass is always a nice addition to a room that needs an extra jolt.

Usually these items are created by artisans and craftsman, making them quite expensive but well worth it. A stylish rug made from Kashmir, Agra or Badohi in pure silk and wool is another element one can use in designing their modern home with Indian elements. Wood carvings or marble plates on display featuring India’s coveted symbols of peace and tranquility is another design possibility.

Indian culture has created some of the finest pieces in design and art. When designing your modern home, it’s important to think of the Indian culture for inspiration, good energy and a positive flow.

I was mashing a banana to feed to Jessica. Half-way through I paused to get a paper towel. When I turned back around I saw that Jess has the rest of the whole banana in one hand and the dish of mashed banana in the other. This is the first time that she has grabbed her food on her own and put it in her mouth to eat. I’m sure it won’t be the last time!

[Allie's POV] I looked at Nick and saw he was dressed in a suit. I continued to look at him as he led me to a table setup smack-dab in the middle of the garden. Roses surrounded us, as well as candles. I looked at the table and saw a single red rose was placed in a vase and three candles were set on the table and as well as dish covers, probably keeping our food hot. I walked towards the table and watched as Nick pulled out my chair and I sat my butt down and he soon slid my chair in. He plopped his butt down and looked at me. “You look stunning.” He said. I smiled; I really couldn’t help the fact it crept onto my face. “Thank you. You look quite sharp.” I said, responding to his compliment. He smiled and pulled off the cover of the food exposing something I was so in love with. My favorite dish I have ever had, steak. I’m not no girly girl; you should know that by now. I’m a meat lover, and I knew he knew that. “You like steak right?” He asked. “I mean, I hope you do, I can change it. I’m so sorry if you dont like it. I tried and tried to make it-” He said, but I cut him off midsentence. “I love steak Nick.” I said, smiling at him. “Thank heavens. I wanted to make you happy.” He said, placing the covers to the side. I smiled as I started cutting my food and began eating. We ate in silence for a few minutes and before I knew it, I was done and so was Nick. “So, why do all this for me? I’m not special in any way.” I asked, turning a question into a statement. “Walk with me …

My pupils dilated in shock, they were like the size of golf balls. Anger soared wildly through my chest, making my heart pound violently. I looked around the bathroom franticly grabbing the first thing in plain sight–the cucumber scented soap that was sitting on the white soap dish. His name kept pounding at my skull: Mitchel Mitchel Tate Musso I threw the soap aggressively towards the mirror (lucky the mirror didn’t break) the soap slid down the mirror leaving a soapy trail of bubbles behind as it landed into the sink. A small bloodcurdling shriek escaped from her plump broken lips as the piercing sound echoed around the room, hammering at my head. Her fragile hands started to shake uncontrollably. She felt numb waist below, like she was encased in ice, frozen for eternity. I scrunched up my hands into tight balls of fists as I began to slam them against tiles of the bathroom wall. She didn’t know what to say or do; she just stood there and watched my rage escalate. I began to breathe heavily, slowly calming myself down. I turned my head slowly to face her. Her skin was pale as snow, she looked like a ghost. I pulled her close again into my chest, slowly rubbing her back in circular motions, calming her down. I tilted her head up with my index finger, her coffee-coloured eyes all puffy and swollen from the thousands of tears she had shedded. She had raccoon circles of mascara under her eyes. She was completely … vulnerable. “Shhh” I didn’t know what else to do, I had …
